1) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant Lester J. Bishop for extraordinary achievement while serving as Lead Navigator for a combat wing of B-24 aircraft on a heavy bombardment mission against the enemy over Germany, 20 June 1944. Lieutenant Bishop unerringly guided the formation to the assigned target and his pin-point navigation greatly aided the Bombardier in picking out the objective. The technical skill, courage and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Bishop were in a large measure responsible for the successful completion of an important mission. His actions on this occasion reflect highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
2) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Lester J. Bishop for extraordinary achievement while serving as Lead Navigator of wing and group formations on heavy bombardment missions against the enemy. Lieutenant Bishop demonstrated exceptional proficiency in guiding his formations to the assigned targets in devastating attacks against Sully-sur-Loire, France, 17 July 1944. Le-Mesnil-Bury, France, 25 July 19144 and Bad Dreuznsen, Germany, 2 January 1945 despite danger of anti-aircraft fire on each mission. The outstanding navigational skill displayed by Lieutenant Bishop materially contributed to the success of these important operations. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
