Edwin W. Allard

Captain Edwin W. Allard is awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as pilot attached to Marine Photographidc Squadron ONE FIFTY-FOUR operating in the Solomon Islands area from November 1942 to August 1943. Flying without fighter protection and under the manace of constant enemy anti-aircraft fire, Captain Allard participated in numerous flights deep into hostile territory, photographing Janpanese islands and installations. During the ten month period it was necessary for him to make continual hazardous flights over strongly defended enemy bases under the most adverse weather conditions, mapping areas required for the further advance of our ground forces. Captain Allard’s expert airmanship and courageous devotion to duty contributed immeasurably to the success of our operations in this vital war area and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Services.
