William D. Elliott

#1) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant William D. Elliott for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 31 January 1968. On that date, Lieutenant Elliott participated in an emergency troop movement to Tan Son Nhut Airport resulting from an intense offensive campaign by hostile forces. Although the threat of ground fire was high and the probability of mortar and rocket attack while on the ground virtually certain, Lieutenant Elliott made repeated shuttles to the embattled airfield, delivering the vitally needed defense forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
