Larry S. Feasel

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Larry S. Feasel for heroism while participating in aerial flight as evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Chief Warrant Officer Feasel distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 14 December 1969 while serving as a Pilot with the 176th Aviation Company. On that date, Chief Warrant Officer Feasel was flying the Command and Control helicopter in support of an allied ground unit conducting a combat assault operation when an emergency medical evacuation mission was requested. As the aircraft approached the pick-up point, Chief Warrant Officer Feasel skillfully coordinated the friendly ground fire to effectively cover the extraction. Despite the concentration of enemy fire, he skillfully monitored the aircraft instruments and kept the Aircraft Commander advised of the ship’s operational status. Alertly evaluating signs of extensive battle damage, Chief Warrant Officer Feasel enabled the commander to devote his full attention to the maneuver of the helicopter. Through his timely and courageous actions, he contributed significantly to the success of the dangerous recovery mission. Chief Warrant Officer Feasel’s personal heroism, professional competence, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the American Division, and the United States Army.
