Christopher D. Ferrara

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Christopher D. Ferrara for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-123 Aircraft Commander near That Son Vietnamese Army Airfield, Republic of Vietnam on 15 March 1970. On that date, Lieutenant Ferrara flew four difficult and extremely hazardous sorties into this marginally operational airfield, transporting essential ammunition and supplies in support of friendly forces in the area. Despite low visibility and the constant threat of ground fire from hostile forces occupying the hills overlooking the narrow assault runway, Lieutenant Ferrara successfully completed this important mission without sustaining damage to his aircraft or injury to the crew. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Ferrara reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
