- Maurice D. Bach
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Maurice D. Bach for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-47 Navigator over Tay Ninh Province, III Corps, Republic of Vietnam on 18 August 1968. Major Bach was flying a night flare illumination mission in support of a strategically located Special Forces outpost that was under attack and in danger of being overrun. In spite of the intense anti-aircraft fire, poor visibility and turbulence surrounding the target, Major Bach successfully directed the crew for over 5 hours. This action was directly responsible for repulsing the hostile attackers and also allowed the evacuation of 30 wounded friendly forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Bach reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
