Wilbur R. Dudley

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Wilbur R. Dudley for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander over Southeast Asia on 11 November 1969. On that date, he was faced with marginal weather conditions and received an estimated 290 rounds of intense anti-aircraft fire while attacking a heavily defended and lucrative target. Major Dudley nevertheless attacked the target four successive times before departing the area, leaving one anti-aircraft gun destroyed, two guns damaged, and a large sustained secondary fire. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Dudley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
