William R. Fox

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant William R. Fox for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an O-2B Pilot over Phuoc Long Province, Republic of Vietnam, on 6 February 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Fox was flying a routine Psychological Warfare mission when he was requested to cover a special target in support of the United States Army. Despite deteriorating weather conditions and hostile ground fire in the area, Lieutenant Fox successfully made aerial broadcasts which resulted in the surrender of fifty members of the hostile force. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Fox reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
