Curtis T. Fallgren

Major Curtis T. Fallgren distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Aircraft Commander near Wake Island on 15 October 1968. On that date, while piloting a HU-16 aircraft on an aircraft ferry mission, an engine nose case partially disintegrated throwing shrapnel and broken glass through the cockpit and side of the fuselage. Although his aircraft repeatedly sustained serious damage, he was successful in guiding his aircraft and crew to a safe return to Wake Island. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Fallgren reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
