Leslie R. Dyer III

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Leslie R. Dyer III for distinguishing himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-7A Pilot at Djamap Airfield, Republic of Vietnam, on 22 January 1971. On that date, Lieutenant Dyer was selected to airlift supplies and personnel into Djamap. Although Djamap was under repeated enemy rocket and mortar attack, Lieutenant Dyer elected to fly nine airlift support missions into Djamap employing tactical aerial maneuvers on approach and departure to prevent damage to the aircraft and injury to the crew from the hostile forces. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Dyer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
